LaunchDarkly ships Release Autopilot for AI-written code

LaunchDarkly introduced Release Autopilot on November 4, 2026: automation that scores pull-request risk, adds a feature flag when needed, rolls out progressively, auto-rolls back, then cleans up the flag. General availability is set for November 16; some features stay in beta.

Why it matters

Per LaunchDarkly’s official blog, the product targets release toil as AI code volume rises. When a change lands, it can classify PR risk, update the PR to wrap risky code in a feature flag, ramp exposure while watching team-defined guardrail metrics, hold or roll back if metrics degrade, then open a cleanup PR and archive the flag after success.

Release Autopilot is not a code-review tool and does not replace CI/CD. CI/CD automates how code deploys; Autopilot automates how a change reaches users after deploy. Teams choose autonomy—from recommendations with human approval to fuller automation. LaunchDarkly says it already ships over 20% of pull requests to production without human review, with engineers setting the guardrails.

Internally, the company reports more than doubling monthly merged PRs and nearly quadrupling flag creation over the past year with roughly the same engineering headcount, while Major+Critical incident time fell about 70%. Trials are available now; GA is November 16, 2026.
